Mathematics Competitions
Some of Aloha College’s most talented mathematicians from Year 10 and 11 took part in a ISMTF Mathematics Competition in February with 40 other international schools from all over Europe. During the weekend they had the opportunity to meet students from a wide variety of nationalities and backgrounds and on the last day they had time to explore the centre of Brussels. They agreed that although the competition questions were very challenging, the experience helped them to understand and enjoy mathematics even more.
European University of Madrid Presentation
On 25 February, a representative from the Universidad Europea de Madrid gave a presentation to the Aloha College IB students.
Successful ex-Aloha pupil
On 21 February George Winding, an ex-pupil of Aloha College graduated in 1997, returned to “base” to talk to current pupils about his expertise in the recruitment industry.
Andalucia Day Breakfast
Aloha College is celebrating its own Andalucia Day on Friday 25 February, starting off with a delicious breakfast of bread and locally-made olive oil. Most of this day’s activities will be related to Andalucia’s special day, and we hope the children will mirror the Andalusian flag by dressing in green and white!
Year 10 Trip to Malaga Philharmonic
The Year 10 musicians were fortunate enough to be invited to watch a rehearsal of the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra at the ‘Teatro Cervantes de Malaga’.
Years 10-12 Visit French Theatre Malaga
Over 40 Aloha students from Years 10-12, accompanied by 3 French teachers, went to see “Le Jour de la Marmotte” by the Recursos, Haz Teatring theatre company in Malaga, which consisted of four actors acting in several roles during the show.
Year 5 visit to Picasso Museum Malaga
Early in the spring term, year 5 paid a second visit to the city of Malaga; this time to visit the museum that is dedicated to the work of the world renowned, locally born artist, Pablo Picasso. On arriving in the Plaza de la Merced, the children were able to view his actual place of birth and trace the steps through the squares where he spent his early childhood.
