KS1 Summer Sports Day
On Tuesday 15 May Key Stage 1 and Foundation Stage held their annual Sports Day. This is always an important event in the Primary school calendar but particularly so this year as we are all eagerly anticipating the 2012 Olympics. It was a fun day and all children participated enthusiastically in their races. The events included running races, sack races, the egg and spoon race and even an obstacle course – not forgetting the Parents´ Race! Granada held on to their title but everyone did their best and, in true Olympian fashion we were all champions.

Ex pupil George Winding
“On 7 May, George Winding, an ex-pupil of Aloha College who graduated in 1997, returned again to talk to the current sixth form Business and Management students about his current work and career path since leaving the College. After studying a BSc (Hons) Hotel and Catering Management degree in the UK, George went on to become a Senior Recruitment Consultant in London. He is now a self-employed freelance recruiting specialist working on a contract for MAERSK. The Business and Management students recently visited the MAERSK facility in Algeciras and George spoke about his contracted role as an I.T. recruitment specialist. MAERSK has grown into a major player in the global shipping and energy sectors, employing 108,000 people in 130 countries. His young audience was very impressed and inspired by his evident passion for his chosen profession.”

Year 1 Farm Trip Alozaina
On Friday 27 April Year One set off on a trip to La Granja Escuela, Arroyo de las Viñas, Alozaina. Everyone was very excited and they were not to be disappointed. On arrival all were treated to drinks and cakes which went down very nicely. The children were then split into four groups of birds, rabbits, horses and cats. Each group was sent to different activities of: – making jam, making lemonade, looking at the animals and planting seeds. Each group completed each activity over the day. The children enjoyed these activities. When making the jam they got to chop up, mash and heat up the strawberries with sugar. The lemonade tasted very nice especially as the children had carefully picked and squeezed the lemons. The children were also given the opportunity to choose plants and went to the vegetable patch to plant and water them. At the farm they saw many animals; a Vietnamese pig, hens, rabbits, peacocks and horses. After such a busy time the children were treated to a meal of pasta and jelly. Unfortunately it was then time to return to school after such a busy and exciting day.

MUN Sardinia – Year 12
On April 17th 2012, we embarked on a plane to Sardinia, Italy, known for its luxury getaways and breath-taking beaches. Unfortunately, we were there on more serious business; saving the world. As the representatives of Palestine (Claudia Martinez / Regina Segalerva) and Saudi Arabia (Malaika Jose / Martijn de Zeuuw), we attended a very eventful MUN conference in which we discussed the pressing and pivotal issues that concern our economy and our right to free speech. MUN, which stands for Model United Nations, attempts to do just that, emulate the real United Nations in which aspiring young adults get together and debate our world’s current events. It not only provides us with great insight and knowledge to the real world, but it helps shape the young students who will one day become our world’s representatives.
