Congratulations to our school Cross Country team who competed in Cártama and were awarded 3rd place overall. Originally anyway – then Mr Toal emailed me very late at night to announce there had been a recount and we had finished in second place! Congratulations to our superstar heroes.
Here is what Mr Toal says about the event: There is nothing more rewarding to a PE teacher than to see their students give everything they have for the team and this is what the Aloha PE Department were delighted to see at the international schools cross country championship this past Wednesday.
From start to finish all students who made the squad understood the importance of leaving nothing left in the tank and committing to the group effort.
“There were some outstanding individual performances also with Rafa Mota (Y9) and Inez Adamovic (Y10) securing bronze medals and Pablo Lettera (Y5) getting silver. Most notable on the day was the performance of Florence Sargent who led from the front after the first corner and finished approximately four hundred metres ahead of the second placed athlete. A truly amazing run which left every spectator stunned and in awe.
Special mention has to go to the senior team of which Maya Sargent and Yael Mattila volunteered to participate in order to assist the team and allow us a full quota of athletes in the final race. They performed admirably and without their involvement, the Aloha team would not have placed as well as we did.
A huge well-done from all of Team PE, we are proud of every single one of you and we are already looking forward to next year’s event!”
