Aloha College Choir made another sought-after appearance at the Talk Radio Europe Telethon in aid of CUDECA on Friday 8 March. They were able to donate to this charity the funds entrusted to them by parents and staff.
The Year 10 and 11 musicians were fortunate enough to be invited to watch Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra in rehearsal at the ‘Teatro Cervantes de Malaga’. All Aloha College students and some hungry parents enjoyed an Andalusian breakfast of “pan con aceite” in celebration of Andalucia’s special day.
Year 3 enjoyed visiting the Town Hall and the Marbella Old Town. They showed special talent while copying some of Salvador Dali’s bronze sculptures on the Avenida del Mar.
On Wednesday 13 February, 20 Aloha College students participated in the “1st Costa del Sol Interschool Quiz” organized by I-answer and sponsored by Da Bruno Restaurant.
The Mayoress of Marbella, Mª Angeles Muñoz, visited Aloha to congratulate the Orienteering teams who had managed to find their way around Marbella the previous week following a series of clues.
To help us to understand the importance of Internet Safety, members of the National Police visited the children in years 5 and 6, to share important information about the dangers of using social networking sites. The children were able to discuss their experiences, ask questions about how these sites could lead them into difficult situations and received advice about what they should do if they become worried about anything that they meet on-line. This proved to be a valuable experience for the children: they were very attentive to what the police had to tell them and as teachers, we were able to see that the police’s presence really enforced the messages we had been giving them during Internet Safety Week.
After a fiercely fought competition, with a record number of Aloha College teams participating, the winners in the Aloha College school league table are The Crazy Businessmen from the Year 10 Economics Class. This was an outstanding achievement for the team, made up of Stephen, Daniel, Artem and Henri, since they also finished THIRD in the International Schools league, made up of 240 teams from around world. The young investors, who have just started out on their IGCSE Economics studies, invested wisely in early November and carefully managed their portfolio of shares, making slight adjustments along the way. The team also finished 60th out of 7,600 participating teams from the UK and international schools. They made a capital gain of more than €23,000 over the three month period of the competition, after starting with a virtual 100,000 GBP.
