On Thursday 7 April Aloha College opened its doors to the whole community so it could see the school in action.
In April Aloha College celebrated Book Week by doing curricular activities which focussed on different characters from pupils’ favourite books. On Friday everyone, including teachers, came dressed as their favourite character and regaled parents and Senior School pupils with their fantastic costumes.
Students from all Year groups were invited to write a poem to celebrate World Peace Day. The standard was so high that many of these poems were submitted to A Young Writers Poetry competition. The best 32 poems have just been published by Forward Press in their book, Poetry Matters.
The Aloha College tennis team was thrilled to meet the famous Spanish tennis-player and winner of Wimbledon, Manuel Santana.
Pelayo Gómez Picó, an ex-pupil of Aloha College, left us to go to London when he signed up for Brentford Football Club.
Aloha College has been a Cambridge ESOL Examinations Centre for more than 20 years. This month students from Aloha and other schools on the coast have been doing their KET and PET exams on a Saturday, and for the first time 50 Aloha students and 7 from EIC took the Cambridge Young Learners (YLE) examinations, for which they have been receiving additional tuition for only the past 2 months.
Aloha College supported Saturday’s worldwide efforts to slow down climate change, by turning off lights, computers etc from 1.30 to 2.00 pm.
Aloha College’s Year 5 and Year 6 competed alongside other local schools at an Athletics festival in the Municipal Stadium in Marbella. The children took part in a selection of events including shot put, long jump, long distance, sprint and relay races.
