Aloha pupils enjoyed a fantastic week of global exploration during our International Discovery Week. Our objective was to enable students to gain an awareness of the social, economic and political conditions that affect us globally. Each secondary section tutor group was allocated a country to research and create an informative presentation on. One tutor group was chosen from each year group to present to the whole section in the assembly last Friday. Pupils were also sent video links to view and discuss with their tutor groups each morning about topical global issues in the news.
During the assembly, also attended by parents, judges enjoyed viewing a variety of dancing, news reports, videos, an impressive use of ICT and technology along with our annual Inter-house public speaking debate and a UN millennium goals video competition. The winners of the speaking debate were from Sevilla who spoke with confidence and eloquence, confidently using a range of rhetorical techniques. The event was a celebration of the strong international community at Aloha College with pupils and staff working together on real world issues. This was an outstanding event which we aim to continue to develop upon year upon year.
