On Thursday 24 June, we celebrated the graduation of Class of 2021. A memorable event in which students, parents and teachers said goodbye to a very unusual academic year marked by protocols and the use of masks.
But this group of brilliant students were special and they overcame every single obstacle – part of the head students’ speech: Adriana and Caio, “We have been strong enough to beat Covid and now is the time to celebrate!”
The graduation ceremony provoked both feelings of joy and sadness, but above all, feeling of pride, The speeches made by the Chair of Board; our Principal, the Head of Secondary School and some teachers caused mixed feelings of laughter, sadness and happiness.
One of the highlights of the evening were the words from Liz Batchelor: “As we look back over the years, certainly there was a beginning, and thankfully there was also progress and yes, without a doubt, you have all been successful. May your years ahead continue to be characterised by empathy, kindness, resilience and a willingness to take risks. May you always lead by example and work hard to be honest. May your successes be many and your tribulations be few. I wish you everything that you richly deserve in the years ahead. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as your Principal. I wish all our school community a happy and safe summer vacation.”
But above all, the best part of the event was when Year 13s threw their caps up in the air – supported by their loved ones and their teachers in an incomparable picturesque surrounding – the iconic La Concha mountain in the background.
