This Year’s Be Kind Campaign coincided with Anti- bullying week in the UK and we kicked off the week by joining in ‘Odd Socks Day’. All pupils and staff were invited to wear the wackiest, weirdest and oddest socks they could find. Our staff and students certainly turned a few heads on the way into school.
The key messages pupils were asked to focus on were:
- That we must respect each other and ourselves.
- Understand that bullying is a behaviour choice.
- That we can respectfully disagree with each other i.e. we don’t have to always agree with each other, but we do have to respect each other.
- That we all need to choose to respect each other online and off line
Across the school, in all subject areas, teachers incorporated the theme of Respect into their lessons. During Primary and Secondary Assemblies, on the last day, students had the opportunity to share their ideas, poems and raps with the rest of the school. Students were asked to leave messages related to Respect on the ‘graffiti wall’. In PSHE, pupils were asked to think about Respect in more detail and also how they show respect to themselves. Aloha’s Be Kind Campaigners spread the love in both Primary and Secondary sections by delivering handmade birthday cards and treats for students who had birthdays throughout the week.
The Be Kind Campaign is a whole school initiative and continues to grow each year.
