Primary Library Newsletter – Autumn Term 2021

With a focus on Library skills, we have had a busy term learning about how the library is organised and how to find the books we want. We even learned a dewey decimal rap to help us remember how the non fiction books are organised!   We have recreated our favourite book covers, we have enjoyed story time and time for reading for pleasure in our wonderful library space.

Looking forward to next term
Next term our Library focus will be Authors.  We will be learning about different authors new and old.  We will discuss the writing and illustrating processes and some of us may even try writing our own books – watch this space!

Library Club
We have had so much fun in Library Club!  Year 5 have been making podcasts about their favourite books. Year 4 have been enjoying different activities from listening to audio books to creating their own stories to scavenger hunts! Year 6 have been helping organise and tidy the library and creating art for library displays.

Christmas Wish List
Winter is the perfect time for cosying up with a good book.  Keep your children reading through the holidays with some Christmas themed books. Here are a few that are on our Christmas list.

The Christmas Pine by Julia Donaldson and Victoria Sandøy a lovely rhyming festive story celebrating the pine tree sent from Oslo to London every year.  For ages 5+

The Christmassaurus and the naughty list by Tom Fletcher and Shane Devries is the latest book in the best selling Christmassaurus series. Suitable for 6-8 year olds,  this is a story about mischievous kids learning the error of their ways, but it’s also about sharing the true spirit of Christmas and realising that sometimes things aren’t quite as they first appear.

The Christmas Pig by J K Rowling, a heartwarming adventure story about a boy and his toy.  Suitable for the whole family to read together or for ages 9+ for independent readers.

As an Eco school we need to remind you to SHOP LOCAL if you can.

With Christmas in mind we wish everyone a Happy Christmas and  leave you with this message from Dr Seuss!
