Key Stage 2 is a very important time in a child’s life as it is when their independent personality really begins to shine through.
In this the last stage of Primary School the children will be developing this independence and inquisitive thinking which will prepare them for the challenges of Secondary School.
Age: 7 – 10 years
Year Groups: Years 3 – 6
In Key Stage 2 children are also taught Cultura Española which focuses upon the humanities aspects of the Spanish curriculum as taught in Spanish schools. The Schemes of Work for all subjects identify assessment opportunities related to the learning objectives.
At Key Stage 2 the same subjects are continued, building again on the knowledge and skills acquired previously, but also taking account of individual needs to help to develop each child’s full potential, academically, physically, emotionally and socially. All year groups teach English, Maths and Spanish daily in differentiated groups according to ability. Spanish is taught by specialist Spanish teachers and children are grouped according to their first language and acquisition of spoken Spanish.
Children are provided with the opportunity to learn in additional specialist rooms which include: the school library, the IT Suite with a computer per child, the Spanish rooms and the creative classroom or IPC room and the outside classroom. The curriculum is supported by a variety of day visits which exploit the many opportunities available in the local area for enriching the children’s learning. Towards the end of Year 5 and Year 6 these children will enjoy time away on residential trips.
