Covid 19: Update Nº 6

Dear Parents

This is another update with as much information as I am able to share at the moment.

A word I am going to be using quite a lot from now on is “REUNITE”. Aloha College Marbella is committed and will be ready to open its doors to pupils on 31 August 2020. This will be at full capacity or a modified version, depending upon public health and government guidelines, and providing there is no return to lockdown.

Our top priority in reuniting our community is the health and safety of all pupils, staff and parents. Since the onset of the pandemic we have been confronting immediate challenges while finding ways to move forward. This is where we are currently:

  • The school has now been able to begin the strict sanitation procedures recommended by the government, so that when your child does enter the school gates he or she will find everything clean and disinfected.
  • Pupils in Years 11 and 13 will be returning books from 3 June. Further details will follow.
  • Pupils in Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) will be invited to return their textbooks in a named plastic bag which they will deposit in a trolley. They may also collect their personal belongings from their lockers, which will have been placed in named bags. A strict timetable starting from Monday 22 June will be issued for this procedure as specific dates and times will be allocated to each year group in order to ensure social distancing. Further details will follow.
  • Pupils in Year 6 will be given information during transition week regarding any personal belongings that may still be in their lockers.
  • Year 9 pupils will be issued with their new Chromebooks during this procedure. Further details will follow.
  • More detailed information on our plans and full procedures for re-opening on 31 August will be sent in due course. We are planning for every eventuality. By design schools are antithetical to physical distancing, especially the classrooms, playgrounds and dining room, so you can understand the high level of complexity involved in our planning.
  • The school will incorporate an online shop to enable you to purchase the new school uniform before 31 August.
  • There will be no summer school in July or August this year.

We continue to deliver a much-improved online programme for your children which will continue until Friday 26 June, the last day of this academic year. Recruitment of new pupils for the school year 2020-21 has continued online. We are actively planning for our Year 13 students to graduate from Aloha in the best possible way. They have a right to leave our school with fond memories and some celebrations, and we are doing everything in our power to make this happen.

I will update you with further information very shortly.

Finally, thank you once again for your efforts and please be assured that we remain committed to supporting our school families throughout this journey.

Let’s all look forward to being REUNITED once again.

Yours sincerely

Elizabeth Batchelor
Principal
